Different Abilities. Same Right to Defend.
Seated Foundations
A comprehensive two-day defensive handgun course designed for wheelchair users, amputees, and individuals with mobility disabilities.
From first-time shooters to experienced concealed carriers, our training focuses on firearm safety, seated shooting fundamentals, adaptive body mechanics, and practical personal protection.
Individualized instruction covering seated shooting fundamentals, wheelchair positioning, concealed-carry considerations, and responsible personal defense.
Classes are limited to 5–8 students, with two instructors and a dedicated range safety officer. One personal attendant or support person is welcome at no additional cost.
We're gathering interest in Central Alabama and Southeast Kansas. Once at least five students express interest in a region, we'll begin coordinating dates and training facilities.

Learn safe pistol handling, firearm operation, ammunition basics, grip, sight alignment, and fundamental marksmanship principles. Safety is the foundation of every ADA course.

Explore how balance, trunk stability, upper-body strength, wheelchair configuration, and individual physical abilities affect safe handgun handling and positioning.

Explore concealed-carry options, holster selection, firearm retention, clothing considerations, and the unique challenges of securely carrying a handgun while seated.

Learn to recognize potential threats, maintain personal boundaries, identify accessible escape routes, and use awareness and de-escalation to avoid dangerous encounters.

Discuss personal safety strategies for vehicles, parking lots, homes, and public spaces, including considerations for protecting family members and communicating during emergencies.

Apply foundational pistol skills through individualized, supervised range exercises. Training is adapted to each student's capabilities, experience, and demonstrated safety readiness.
ADA-101: Adaptive Defensive Pistol | Seated Foundations is a comprehensive two-day introductory course combining classroom instruction, hands-on practical exercises, and supervised range training.
Whether you're new to firearms or an experienced concealed carrier, our instructors work with you to understand your capabilities, equipment, and individual training goals.
We'll establish a foundation in safe handgun handling and introduce the unique considerations of operating a defensive pistol from a seated or adaptive position.
Topics include firearm safety, pistol fundamentals, body mechanics, balance, wheelchair positioning, concealed-carry equipment, and safe handling.
Students participate in practical exercises using inert training equipment, with instruction adapted to their physical capabilities.
Building on Day 1, we'll explore situational awareness, recognizing and avoiding threats, personal-defense decision-making, and everyday safety considerations.
We'll discuss realistic situations involving vehicles, parking lots, public places, and home environments.
Students who demonstrate appropriate safety readiness will participate in supervised, stationary live-fire exercises designed to reinforce foundational handgun skills.
The course concludes with individualized instructor feedback and recommendations for continued training.
Students should plan to bring appropriate eye and hearing protection, comfortable clothing, any personal mobility equipment or adaptive devices they use, and their approved handgun and equipment if applicable.
Detailed equipment requirements, ammunition information, and facility instructions will be provided when your course is confirmed.
Students are welcome to bring one personal attendant, caregiver, family member, or support person at no additional cost.
Your support person may assist with personal needs, attend classroom discussions, and observe training from designated safe areas. Active firearms participation requires separate enrollment and instructor approval.
Every student's capabilities and training needs are different.
Before class, students will have the opportunity to complete a confidential pre-course assessment to help our instructors plan appropriate accommodations.
Live-fire participation is based on individual safety readiness, not disability classification or previous experience.
Our goal is to provide a safe, respectful, professional learning environment where every student has the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, and confidence.
Adaptive Defense Academy welcomes wheelchair users, amputees, and individuals with a wide range of physical disabilities and mobility limitations.
Whether you have paraplegia, quadriplegia, limited hand function, an upper- or lower-limb amputation, or another mobility limitation, our goal is to provide professional instruction adapted to your individual capabilities.
You do not have to use a wheelchair to participate, and no previous firearms experience is required.
We recognize that every student has different levels of strength, balance, mobility, dexterity, and experience.
Before class, students have the opportunity to complete a confidential pre-course assessment to help our instructors understand their individual needs and plan appropriate accommodations.
Students may bring one personal attendant, caregiver, family member, or support person free of charge.
Support persons may attend classroom instruction, assist with personal needs, and observe training from designated safe areas. Active firearms participation requires separate enrollment and instructor approval.
Different Abilities. Same Right to Defend.

At Adaptive Defense Academy, we understand that traveling to a training course isn't always easy, especially for individuals with disabilities.
That's why we're taking a different approach to scheduling.
Rather than announcing predetermined dates and hoping enough students can attend, we're building our first ADA-101 courses based on student interest and regional demand.
1. Express Your Interest
Join our free ADA-101 Training Interest List and select your preferred training region. There is no payment or commitment required.
2. We Build the Class
Once at least five prospective students express interest in a region, we'll begin coordinating instructors, suitable training facilities, and potential course dates.
Our classes accommodate 5–8 students, with six being our preferred class size, allowing for personalized instruction.
3. Confirm Your Spot & Train
When proposed dates and locations are available, interested students will receive tuition information and registration instructions.
Classes are officially confirmed once minimum paid enrollment, facility arrangements, and instructor logistics are finalized.
We're currently accepting expressions of interest for both regions.
If you know several wheelchair users, amputees, or individuals with mobility disabilities who would like to attend together, we encourage everyone to join the interest list and select the same region.
